Craftsmen are the core of each community. They form an independent class between the tradesmen and the officials on one hand, and the labourers and the fishermen on the other. They often received their education abroad or they were newcomers in the towns. They brought a new culture from foreign cities, a new form of work ethics as well as ideas about unions and civil rights.
